Concrete Manifestation
Friends exhibition, The Band Presents, Docklands
Bell: clay, sand, cement; Painting: clay, cement, EPS foam, acrylics, 2018.
Photos by Rodrigo Ceballos.
Expressed through the paradox of materiality, this defunct bell subverts its universal symbolism as the voice of god, the vault of heaven and creation, feminine and masculine beginning, good and evil, death and immortality. The visceral embodiment of suspended time, the hushed sound and the halted movement is a void.
Installed at the gallery situated in the middle of Docklands commonly lifeless shopping mall, Concrete Manifestation speaks to the nature of this ghost tower suburb and it’s community.
